Bradley Manning given 35-year prison term for passing files to Wikileaks
- Link to website and video here
To summarise this article, Bradley Manning; a 25 year old soildier was convicted to 35 years in prison for leaking classified information to Wikileaks. This came to an appeal to me as there were multiple articles at the time and it intrigued me to find out what it was all about. Although he wasn't fined, he was still "dishonorably" charged and his role in the army was reduced to Private E1. In my opinion, he should of been put into prison as releasing military documents seems like a serious crime. In a way he is "aiding" the enemy and it angers me slightly. Some observers had wanted Manning to be put into jail for the maximum time of 60 years but apparently it isn't possible. However, his sentence will be nothing more than two years. A little outrageous if you ask me...

Season 1 Episode 1; Pilot
- When Scott McCall is convinced by his best friend, Stiles, to join a search in the woods for a missing body, something comes out of the darkness to take a bite out of his side. As strange abilities begin to take affect the next day, Scott meets the beautiful new girl in town, Allison, whose family secrets further complicate his life.(A review on this episode is found here)My ResponseIn 'Teen Wolf, Season 1 Episode 1; Pilot' it begins with a mysterious and foggy setting in the woods. It instantly has you wondering what is going on and gives a whole dramatic scenery. You also ponder why there are police officers with dogs wondering around in the woods. When the main character Scott is shown, it portrays the idea that he is an ordinary teenage boy that enjoys sports. The little things such as how he is fiddling with a Lacrosse stick helps me to watch the character develop. When Stiles appears hanging from the roof to scare his best friend, Scott, it implies that Stiles is being represented as the Comedic character. Both characters share sarcastic comments which portrays more indications that they are typical teenagers. Throughout the rest of the episode, you are intrigued to know what the pair will find in the woods. When Scott is bitten, it is unexpected and shocks me. It also has me worried for the characters well being as well as curious to what is going on. The day of their first day of school, Scott and Stiles are both presented to be the social outcast when Lydia Martin (the popular one) breezes past them as if they didn't exist. When Scott is chosen to play as a part of the Lacrosse team, his enthusiasm indicates that this was probably the first time he was allowed to do so. Which implied that he wasn't exactly popular.
Media Representation
Definition;
- Representation is a key concept in Media education. Understanding the difference between what is real and what is represented is vital to our understanding of any media text.
From research I have found that Media Representation is how the media constructs the meaning of the world. There are different ways to interpret the actual meaning such as selective; where newspaper are shown in a different form from what is actually being reported. Another is typical, from what I have read the media often use stereotypical social groups such as gender, race or age. Another is representative of a position in particular. This specific type interprets whose voices are being heard or whos views are being put into a message.
Three Resources I Found Interesting/Helpful
After spending about twenty minutes analyzing each resource, I have found the three most helpful...
- Found here, How to create a blog on blogger. This video was extremely cooperative and explained each step very well. It wasn't dull, nor boring. It did not drag on for a long time and was simple. There were no complicated words either.
- Found here, Your AS media Bridging Unit. This resource ensured that I had an idea of what I would be taking in the future. Each different information was set into neat tables so it wasn't all bunched together making it confusing.
- Found here, Brief Introduction to TV Drama. This page helped me to understand the task without coming out to be too complicated. Each step was explained clearly.
First Blog
Still a little befuddled about the whole blogging thing, this is all new to me. Despite my confusion, I have managed to create my first blog.
